On the facade of Jodenstraat 22, in one of the oldest streets in Maastricht, you will notice a plaque proclaiming "Macchina Tipografica", behind which you will find a most interesting museum of printing and the art of printing.
The Historic Printshop Museum is located in a 19th-century house with an inner courtyard and a chapel in the centre of Maastricht. Here you will find an unique historic printing establishment dating from around 1900. The chapel structure houses various exhibitions with a focus on the art of printing. During the guided tour, you are treated to a historic overview of the art of printing - with the help of various materials, tools and printing presses - ranging from the first book-blocks to etchings by Rembrandt and litho prints by Toulouse Lautrec. Several old printing presses are still operational.
“Regout Printing Workshop ”
An extraordinary application of copper engraving can be seen at the “Regout Printing Workshop”.
By means of an original printing press of 1860, the particular printing process of decorating earthenware dinner services is applied as it was done around 1860 at the Royal Sphinx in Maastricht.
