Maastricht’s underground culture

The Noord (North) complex of caves form the background for an underground museum. Accompanied by a guide, who will tell you all about the history behind the various underground drawings, paintings and inscriptions, you will visit some very special underground sites. You will also visit Rijksbewaarplaats (national archives site) no. 9, better known as the Vault. This is where about 780 works of art, including Rembrandt’s Night Watch, the Stier (Bull) by Potter, and The Little Street by Vermeer were stored for safekeeping until the end of World War II.
